Why I Started The Nocturnal Fangirl

My disdain with social media. That is the crux of it.

I’m someone that has lots of interests and lots of things I would like to be interested in. However, I’ve found lately that anytime you try to go on any social media- be it X/Twitter, TikTok, Threads, Instagram etc, it doesn’t take long before you find yourself deep in discourse about whatever interests you had that was once pure of heart and now feels like it should be critiqued rather than enjoyed at all.

I hated getting off an app and feeling a sense of annoyance that would follow me throughout the day. I began to second guess whether I should even enjoy something if there was apparently that much wrong with it. I was beginning to feel like my sense of nuance and critical thinking was wasting away and I was being enveloped by groupthink.

And look, I’m 35. I just don’t have the time or energy to spend on social media arguing with strangers. The appeal of fandom is no longer there for me and I would much rather enjoy all the things I love alone (for the most part).

Hence, The Nocturnal Fangirl.

Here, I’ll be able to fangirl the way I want. Explore different interests the way I want and at the pace I want. Because, honestly?

My interests are solely there to bring joy into my life.
